SNIES and Meteor AI agents
Query Colombia's official higher education statistics from a Meteor Met: enrollment, program catalog, faculty and institutions.
How does SNIES connect to Meteor?
Meteor queries SNIES, the higher education information system of Colombia's Ministry of Education, so your Met answers with official figures: enrollment by year, institution, department, level, sector and gender; the catalog of academic programs with their format and accreditation; and the consolidated datasets for faculty and recent enrollment. This is open data and it needs no credentials.
Where it applies: Colombia. This is the official source from the Ministry of Education. Live API enrollment covers 2015 to 2021, and the consolidated datasets add faculty and 2024 enrollment.
What it automates
What a Meteor Met does with SNIES
Size an education market before you invest
Your Met answers how much enrollment sits in a department, at what level and in which sector, and which institutions hold that demand.
Know who you are competing with
Institution search disambiguates similar names and returns the enrollment of each one, which is what makes the conversation comparable.
Check whether a program is already crowded
The program catalog says what is offered, where, in which format and with what accreditation, before anyone proposes opening one more.
Answer a press question with the official figure
The national picture for a year gives the total, the split by sector and gender and the leading departments, with the official source behind it.
5 tools
Everything your Met can ask SNIES for
Each one is a real action in the connector. You can switch off the ones you would rather it never used.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
snies_resumen | National picture for a year with total, sector, gender, level and the top ten departments and institutions. |
snies_consultar | Queries aggregate enrollment by the dimension you choose, with filters and share of total. |
snies_programas | Queries the program catalog, either listing programs or grouping them by a dimension. |
snies_bases | Queries the consolidated datasets for variables the live API does not expose, such as faculty. |
snies_buscar_ies | Finds institutions by name and returns their code, sector, department and enrollment. |
The limits
What the SNIES integration does NOT do
We would rather say it here than have you find out during rollout.
-
It does not cover every year across every variable. The live API reaches 2021 on enrollment, and what is missing sits in the consolidated datasets, which are a separate query.
-
It does not return individual student records. Everything is aggregate.
-
It does not cover primary, secondary or vocational training. The scope is higher education.
-
It does not measure employment outcomes or graduate salaries. That is a different source from the same Ministry.
Before you start
What you need to connect SNIES
- 1
Nothing. This is open data
The query runs against the public source of the Ministry of Education. There is no account to create and no credential to configure.
